The DSE has awarded students at the Forlì Campus with Prizes assigned in memory of our dear colleagues Pierpaolo Giannoccolo and Gianpaolo Rossini for the contributions they made to the economics teaching at the Forlì Campus.

The "Pierpaolo Giannoccolo" Prize, now in its fourth edition, is for the best Master's thesis discussed by students on topics related to Economic Sciences. For the A.Y. 2020/21, the committee composed of Gaetano Alfredo Minerva, Massimiliano Gaetano Onorato and Cecilia Vergari awarded the Prize to Alice Foschini, a Master's degree student in Economics and Business, with a thesis in Finance Science entitled "The Deterrence of Crime. An analysis of the empirical literature", under the supervision of Matteo Lippi Bruni.

The "Gianpaolo Rossini" Prize is aimed at rewarding the best students enrolled in the first year of the Master's Degrees in International and Diplomatic Sciences and in International Politics and Economics.  The award was established starting this year jointly with the UOS of the Department of Political and Social Sciences. For the 2022 enrolled cohort, it was won by Chiara Bardi and Riccardo Baioni respectively. The DSE and the Forli UOS congratulate the winners and wish them a bright future.

EVENTS

November 20-26: theACEEPT Project Week 2022 will be at the Rimini Campus. The theme of this year's edition will be “Cultural heritage and tourism off-the-beaten track”. ACEEPT is a European network of University Colleges in Tourism.

September- December 2022: the Student-Faculty Seminars with international speakers are organized within the International Tourism and Leisure Industries First Cycle Degree / Bachelor in Economics of Tourism

Cléo Chassonnery-Zaigouche, Senior Assistant Professor (RTD-B), SECS-P/04 Economic History

Cléo Chassonnery-Zaïgouche is a historian of economics. She works on the history of the economics of discrimination and its real-world consequences. Her main areas of research are the history of labour economics, with a focus on inequalities, and the relation between economics, expertise and policy in an historical perspective. Cléo Chassonnery-Zaïgouche studied Politics and Social Sciences at Sciences Po Lille (France) and Economics at Savitribai Phule University in Pune (India). She holds a PhD in Economics from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (France). Prior to joining Unibo, Cléo Chassonnery-Zaïgouche was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), a research associate at CRASSH, University of Cambridge, and a fellow at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge (United Kingdom). 

Marco Fabbri, Senior Assistant Professor (RTD-B), SECS-P/02 Economic Policy

Marco Fabbri applies methodologies of Experimental Economics and Behavioral Economics to investigate a wide range of topics connected to the functioning, organization, and consequences of legal and informal institutions. His latest playground is the study of land rights reform in Africa. Marco's research has been published in international journals like, among others, The Review of Economics and Statistics, Management Science, Evolution and Human Behavior, and The Journal of Law and Economics. Marco's research projects have been financed by several international grants and institutions and in 2019 he was awarded the Marie Slodowska-Curie Fellowship. Before joining the University of Bologna, Marco has been lecturer and research fellow at Erasmus University Rotterdam, University of Amsterdam, Pompeu Fabra University Barcelona, and Aarhus University.

Nicola Mastrorocco, Senior Assistant Professor (RTD-B) Economic Policy

Nicola is a researcher with an interest in political economy and applied economics. His research studies the impact of media exposure on individuals’ perceptions, on their political and economic decisions and on the correct functioning of national and local governmental agencies. Nicola also has a strong interest on the economics of crime, with specific focus on the consequences of corruption and collusion in both developed and developing countries. His papers have been published in peer reviewed journals such as Journal of Public Economics, l’American Political Science Review e il Journal of Law, Economics and Organisations. Before joining Bologna, he was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Trinity College Dublin. Nicola was born in Bergamo and he has completed his academic training in Bologna and in the United Kingdom, where he earned his PhD at the London School of Economics. He has one daughter and one son and in his (non) free time still pretends to be sporty.

Prizes and awards

  • Elisabetta De Cao has been selected as mentor for the RES Women's committee which provides early career female researchers support through specific feedback on their research projects.
  • Margherita Fort was Guest editor together with Monica Costa Dias for Labour Economics - the Journal of the European Association of Labour Economists (EALE) - for the Special Issue on the virtuale EALE Conference 2021.
  • Margherita Fort has been appointed as co-editor for Labour Economics - the Journal of the European Association of Labour Economists (EALE).
  • Francesca Cassanelli, who was awarderd the PhD in Economics from DSE, obtained the “Valutare Premia” award for the doctoral thesis “Timeliness, Efficiency and Public Procurement in Hip Surgery in Italy”. The prize is awarded by the Lombardy Regional Council to the best master's degree theses and PhD theses aimed at the analysis and evaluation of public policies implemented on a regional basis.
  • Filippo Pavanello and Davide Zufacchi have received the "Young Economist Best Presentation Award", sponsored by UniCredit Foundation, at the Third PhD Weekend.

Participation in external events

  • 27-28 Giugno: Margherita Fort was invited to participate to the workshop "Emergence and Dynamics of Personality and Attitudes over the Life Cycle" held at the Cesifo Venice Summer Institute on the topic "Triggering Parental Time-Investments on Preschool Children through a mindful parenting program: the results of the 1st wave of MinUTo: Mind US Together".
  • 30-31 Agosto: Margherita Fort was invited to participate as mentor to the event “EEA Women in Economics (WinE) Networking & Mentoring Retreat 2022”, which took place at the Hyatt Centric Milan Centrale in Milan.
  • September 10-12: Alessandro Tavoni was invited to participate to the scientific board meeting organized by the Beijer Institute (September 9, Stockholm) and to the annual workshop Asko Meeting (September 10-12, Sweden) on the topic: “Anthropocene Subsidies – Extinction or prosperity?”.
  • September 26-30: Alessandro Tavoni was invited to participate to the 2nd meeting of the Konrad Lorenz Institute working group (September 26-30, Austria) on the topic “Evolutionary theories for social-ecological change”.

Events co-organized by the DSE

  • September 3-6: Tommaso Sonno organized the Third PhD weekend sponsored by the UniCredit Foundation. During this initiative, Filippo Pavanello (DSE) e Davide Zufacchi (UCL) have been awarded the "Young Economist Best Presentation Awards" by the UniCredit Foundation.
