European Doctorate in Law and Economics (EDLE) Programme

International Ph.D. program founded in 2006 focused on the economic analysis of law. The program is a joint initiative of the University of Bologna, the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, the University of Hamburg and the University of Rennes. At the end of the program, the Ph.D. candidates obtain doctoral degrees from all the universities participating in the consortium. The Department of Economic allocates a four-year grant to the EDLE program as part of its Ph.D. program.  Therefore, the winning candidate will obtain a double doctoral degree. The Department also hosts for 6 months of the first year all doctoral students enrolled in the program and offers several courses to them.

PhD Programme in Public Governance, Management and Policy (P-GOMAP)

The Department of Economics is one of four departments at the University of Bologna that jointly offer the three-year PhD Programme in Public Governance, Management and Policy (P-GOMAP), together with the Department of Management, the Department of Political and Social Sciences, and the Department of Statistical Sciences “Paolo Fortunati”. The programme provides advanced interdisciplinary training in the fields of public governance, public management, and public policy, integrating economics, management, political science, and statistical methods. The Department of Economics contributes in particular to the public policy area, taking part in the design and academic management of the programme, teaching activities, and the supervision of research projects. In terms of teaching, the Department is fully responsible for the compulsory first-year course Foundations of Public Policy, which focuses on analysing how political institutions shape economic, fiscal, and redistributive policies. It also provides PhD students with a range of optional specialised courses offered within the PhD Programme in Economics and the Department’s Master’s degree programmes.
