The department’s branch

Our Research

To understand and tackle fundamental issues such as poverty, inequality, development, employment, climate change and technological change, immigration, health and many others.

Our research activity covers many fields of study, characterised by fruitful collaborations and cross-fertilisation, within an inclusive and stimulating environment, open to a variety of methodological approaches. In line with the socio-economic context and our academic programmes, the research carried out at the Rimini branch focuses on the fields of environmental economics, tourism and sustainable development.

In recent years, the DSE has experienced significant growth in both size and quality, partly through international recruitment, which has made it the largest department of economic sciences in Italy and one of the largest in Europe.

We are active in all the main fields of economic research and, in certain disciplines – including econometrics, applied economics, environmental economics, health economics, experimental economics and political economy – we boast a critical mass of lecturers / professors and researchers that has enabled us to achieve a leading position on the national and European stage.

BLESS Lab

The "Bologna Laboratory for Experiments in Social Science" (BLESS) studies the economic behavior of students, workers, and any other type of population in controlled situations. It was officially opened in June 2010 and it supports the research activities of the STRANGERS team and other researchers in the Department.  BLESS Lab is also linked to another experimental laboratory hosted by the University of Bologna, the Laboratory of Experimental Economics (LES), based in Forlì.
