Abstract

We study the impact of emotional responses to professional soccer match outcomes on the transactions and prices of commercial sex. We find that football matches increase sex work activities, whereas prices and duration decrease. We decompose this increase into two components: the pure game effect and the emotional channel, driven mainly by negative shocks. The latter component is predominant.
