What is a Department of Excellence

Departments of Excellence are identified and financed by MUR every five years as the best 180 departments of State universities. These departments stand out for the quality of the research produced and the quality of the development project submitted.

Excellence of the Department of Economics, 2023-2027

The Department of Economics (DSE) ranks first among Italian public departments and among the top 100 in the world for excellence in economic research, thanks to the growth in recent years in the quality and size of the department, achieved in part by recruiting international lecturers.

The aim of the 2023-2027 project is to lay the conditions so that the development processes triggered over the last five years (also with the incentive of the 2018-2022 Departments of Excellence project) may continue to be pursued sustainably in the long term.  Strengths to enable this consolidation are: increasing scientific productivity; enhancing the attractiveness of degree programmes; promoting the contribution of the DSE to the public debate and the socio-economic development of the country; promoting cohesion and active participation of department members to foster a stimulating and efficient work environment.
