Abstract: In the voting exercise lies a profound tension: although voters have the power to choose who takes decisions for the public, the impact of every single vote is infinitesimal. While the former emphasizes the central role of each voter in the democratic process, the latter discourages any effort they might make to cast a “better” ballot, including getting informed on how the elections work and who are the candidates.

Might technology release this tension by offering nearly costless ways of getting information, and consequently making it rational to cast more educated votes?
