Abstract
GUIDE (Growing Up In Digital Europe - http://www.guidecohort.eu/home/) would be Europe’s first harmonized, comparative birth-cohort survey. This Research Infrastructure will be a source of high-quality longitudinal data on children and young people in Europe. It will be an important resource for researchers in the social sciences and will support evidence-based policy development. GUIDE will be an accelerated cohort survey that will start with a sample of new-born infants as well as a sample of school age children. Both cohorts will be surveyed at regular intervals until the age of 24 years. Survey instruments for the first cohorts are about to be tested in pilot surveys. Researchers at the University of Bologna (Departments of Economics and Statistics) have played a key role in developing the GUIDE project in Italy. This talk will provide information on the progress of the GUIDE project in Italy and on the format of the proposed Italian GUIDE pilot and the topics that will be covered in this preliminary wave of the survey.
