Title: Taxing for Symmetry: How Generative AI Shapes Redistributive Decisions in Coordination Games

Abstract: The experiment aims to shed light on how Generative AI can affect the behavior of policy makers when they are faced with a redistributive decision. Our framework employs a coordination game that stylizes a constituency which needs to coordinate in market interactions while a strong asymmetry is present between two groups of players. The policymaker can decide to impose a redistribution and mitigate the underlying inequality at the cost of a significant loss of efficiency. Our intervention aims to measure how Gen AI vis à vis a human consultant affects this redistributive decision. Specifically we would like to measure how the AI interacts with the social preferences of the policymaker. If Gen AI clearly exerts a bias into a certain direction (favoring either efficiency or fairness), it might have profound implications on how certain social systems reconfigure in a future marked by deeper integration of this technology.
